Together with members of almost all credativ offices world-wide I travelled to Madrid in October to attend PGConf Europe, the most important European PostgreSQL event. The conference, as usual, was greatly organized and had a lot of interesting presentations and thus, was rightfully sold-out. It again brought together a lot of the PostgreSQL community.

I have been doing FOSS as a developer for more than twenty years now; 15 of those FOSS has also been my job. The perception of FOSS has changed quite a bit over the years but we are still facing some obstacles in the world of enterprise IT. I plan to do an series of entries highlighting some of the advantages and also some of the challenges FOSS faces in those environments.

For the eigth year in a row Black Duck Software and North Bridge Venture Partners are running the Future of Open Source Survey. The survey, an annual assessment of the state of the open source industry and analysis of future trends, reflects the insights of open source software (OSS) industry leaders and collaborating organizations, and is open to participation from the technology community.

Earlier last year I was asked by the guys at xTuple to join them on their inaugural xTuple user conference, named xTupleCon in Norfolk, VA, to do a keynote presentation about Open Source in enterprise IT in general and PostgreSQL in particular.
